The Music Bed is a music licensing website that has become very popular for small scale productions over the course of the last two years. They offer original quality music and instrumental tracks by independent musicians and bands.Their website was relaunched to offer new features and easier browsing for filmmakers.
What’s new?Basically the whole website has been redesigned and restructured. On the old website it was hard to discover new music as many times you would find the same (good) titles over and over. It wasn’t easy to find very specific things you were looking for.
This has changed. Apparently every song has been retagged from scratch. They say:For the past six months, during every moment of every day, five members of The Music Bed team have been relistening to our entire song catalog — three times through. Everything has been retagged and recategorized to be more accurate and more intuitive.
Another new feature is that now you can not only browse their database by mood or genre, but also by characteristic, length or vocal constellations. Impressive!I can’t remember to have seen this kind of advanced search anywhere else.
There are a few other features like song history, visual waveforms, multitag search and more. Most importantly though the music itself is really powerful, original and inspiring which is also why we as cinema5D use The Music Bed as a prime source for our camera review music.
Many other filmmakers have good things to say about the music bed and they have made a nice promo film featuring names like Bloom, La Foret and Hurlbut. Check it out here:
