Blackmagic Design has announced an update to the Blackmagic Video Assist. Firmware 1.2 brings a few new features, most notably DNxHD codec support, HDMI start/stop trigger & SD record time remaining.
For those who don’t know, the Blackmagic Video Assist is a very affordable field monitor/recorder. It accepts HDMI and SDI (via mini inputs) recording ProRes to cheap SD cards.
This latest update adds DNxHD to the mix allowing for a wider variety of codec options in post.
Adding to that, firmware 1.2 brings a couple of fundamental features such as record time remaining on the SD card and clip info on play back as well as start/trigger via HDMI and extended Zebra range.
