For most indie filmmakers, premium gear remains a dream. High figure prices for quality accessories easily double the investment in that shiny new camera. So, what can you do? CAME-TV is a Chinese manufacturer, offering decent gear with price tags that won’t burn a hole into your pocket. Their latest offering is a full 15mm camera rig, purpose-built for Sony’s a7 line of mirrorless cameras, including the latest and greatest Sony a7S III (read our review here).
This new rig includes everything you’ll need to get started: a camera cage for mounting accessories, for example the included handle, a 15mm rod riser plate, a set of two 200mm rods, a simple clamp-on matte box with one filter tray, complete with a carbon fiber flag and a follow focus.
All this is US$488 which seems to be a reasonable deal, indeed. Of course, this set can’t compete with higher-end offerings but truth be told: You get what you pay for. To get you started with your new Sony a7S III this set might be just right without breaking the bank.
The CAME-TV Sony Camera Rig will not only fit the latest Sony a7S III but also a whole lot of similar sized and shaped Sony cameras:
There are of course a number of other manufacturers in the market, offering rigging solutions for the new a7S III. You might want to check out products from SHAPE (read the article here), SmallRig (article here) or Tilta (article here). The Tilta cage is pretty aggressively priced, however, it is just a cage. There’s no follow focus or matte box included.
The CAME-TV Sony Camera Rig is available now and it retails for $488. You can get it directly from CAME-TV’s website.
This rig seems to be a great deal if you don’t insist on working with just premium gear for premium money. The CAME-TV offering will get you up and running for a very reasonable price and it will help you get the most out of your Sony mirrorless camera, when it comes to video.
What do you think? Could this kit be a good addition to your Sony camera? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
