Canon Rebel 550D/T2i
The Canon Rebel T2i or 550D is the best Rebel to date but it’s no replacement for the Canon 7D. I had the chance to shoot with the Rebel a few times and every time I used it. It overheated. During one test day at The Huntington Gardens it overheated five times while shooting a test against the 7D. The Rebel does take fantastic still photos. This is the most impressive feature of the camera. The small size is also a plus. It could be a great “Director’s Viewfinder” and could be used as a crash cam if need be. I cannot recommend using this for serious video work. The overheating problem must be fixed first. Then, we may have a camera for production work. Here is a quote from the DP Review.com article.
“Central to the impressive specification of the EOS 550D is a high-spec movie mode which offers full HD capture at up to 30 fps, manual control over exposure, and the option to use an external stereo microphone. The new camera also inherits the EOS 7D’s sophisticated metering system (which brings it a lot closer to similarly positioned Nikon SLRs).”
