The Cooke SP3 lenses come standard with a Sony E-mount. Still, the company recently announced that after purchasing a lens or lens set, you’ll have the choice between Canon RF, Leica M, or L-Mount for an additional, free-of-charge lens mount adapter. So, let’s take a closer look at it!
Cooke Optics has produced legendary lenses over the years, such as the Cooke Panchro and S-line lenses, to name a few. These high-end cinema lenses are well-known for their distinctive “Cooke look” and have been used on feature film sets worldwide for decades. Also, and this is true for every top-tier lens, Cooke prime, zoom, and anamorphic lenses are mainly rental-only glass due to their multiple five-figure prices.
However, the company created some waves on the Internet when they launched the Cooke SP3 prime lenses in September 2023. Indeed, the SP3 are compact and lightweight lenses primarily designed for mirrorless and small cinema cameras. They promise “Cooke’s classic Speed Panchro design delivered through lenses built for the digital age” and are “affordable” at $4500/€3900 per lens.
The Cooke SP3 are available in five focal lengths, including 25mm, 32mm, 50mm, 75mm, and 100mm. All lenses have a maximum aperture of T2.4, cover full-frame image sensors, have matching focus and aperture rings for fast lens swap changes, and come natively with a user-interchangeable Sony E-mount. At launch, the company mentioned that other lens mounts would be available in the near future, including Canon RF, Leica M, and L-mount.
From now on, if you purchase one Cooke SP3 lens or the five-lens set, you’ll qualify for a free second lens mount of your choice in either Canon RF, Leica M, or L-mount. Of course, you’ll still have the Sony E-Mount as the lenses come fitted with it.
Changing the lens mount on the Cooke SP3 is relatively straightforward: all you do is remove four screws on the lens mount, swap it, and screw it back.
The Cooke SP3 prime lenses are available now for $4500/€3,900 per lens and $21,375/€18,525 for the five-lens set. The Cooke SP3 second mount offer starts now; it is available globally and must be redeemed within 90 days of purchase. To get your second free additional mount, visit Cooke’s website “within 90 days of the invoice date and specify your choice of second mount. Cooke will then supply the mounts within two weeks.”
Have you already shot a project with the Cooke SP3? What do you think about this second mount offer? Don’t hesitate to let us know in the comments below!
