During NAB, the battery manufacturer Core SWX released the CoreSWX GT8 Quad Charger, featuring charge speeds under 60 minutes. Made in the USA, the charger is compatible with the Helix Max and the Apex HV batteries and it is available in V-mount, G-mount, and B-mount versions.
Core SWX is a company dedicated to providing reliable and innovative battery and charging solutions to professionals in the film industry. We wrote about them not long ago when they released their Helix Max 275 and 360 battery packs. With the Core SWX GT8 Quad Charger, the manufacturer adds another dimension to their Helix Max and Apex HV batteries.
The Core SWX GT8 Quad Charger is designed to charge fast (up to four Helix Max 98wh batteries in under 60 minutes at 4A per bay). It also charges ApexHV lighting and grip batteries, making it more versatile for film productions. Their Core’s Sub60 Charge technology allows for fast charging times and makes possible multiple charges throughout the day (what the company calls ‘same-day cycleTM’).Â
This feature has an obvious advantage for filmmakers. I have been in situations where I had to carry a considerable amount of batteries to avoid running out of power in the middle of a shooting. The GT8 Quad Charger ensures our empty batteries will be ready to use again quickly.
Another feature of the GT8 Quad is its build quality. The charger is made of an all-aluminum construction, making it a robust piece of gear that protects its internal parts. This feature is perfect when shooting in packed locations or outdoor documentaries.
CoreSWX ecosystem users could find investing in the GT8 Quad charger interesting. Although not cheap, its fast charging times and build quality make it a perfect companion for previous Helix Max battery users.
Also, traveling with many lithium-ion battery packs can be challenging. The GT8 Quad could be a good solution for those cinematographers, filmmakers, or grip specialists who want to travel with fewer batteries and are looking for a reliable powering solution.
The GT8 Quad charger can be pre-ordered, and the retail price is $1,999 for its three versions (V-mount, G-mount, and B-mount). For further information, please visit the Core SWX website.
