DaVinci Resolve 15 Integrates Fusion

Visual effects and motion graphics have come to DaVinci Resolve with the integration of Fusion and a number of other updates into the software as part of version 15 of the suite. An interview with Blackmagic Design CEO, Grant Petty, is below as well as more highlights of the update: 

Fusion, Blackmagic Design’s motion graphics and compositing software, has now been fully integrated into Resolve. While still available as a standalone version, the Fusion toolset is now accessed by clicking the Fusion button at the bottom of the workspace. Want to add visual effects or motion graphics? Select your clip and launch the Fusion page. You’ll then have access to a variety of tools such as vector painting, keying, rotoscoping, particles, text animation and image stabilization.

Fairlight, Blackmagic Design’s audio focused toolset, has received a number of updates in Da Vinci 15 including:

• ADR tools
• static and variable audio retiming with pitch correction
• shared sound libraries
• legacy support for Fairlight projects
• audio normalization tool
• 3D panners audio and video scrollers
• a fixed playhead with scrolling timeline

Beyond updates to Fairlight and the integration of Fusion, Blackmagic has added support for Apple Metal, multiple GPUs and CUDA acceleration. For editors, the company promises improved load times in version 15 with large projects, subtitle and closed captioning tools, a floating timecode window, auto save with versioning and other organization and metadata focused tools.

Colorists may appreciate a new LUT browser for quickly previewing and applying LUTs, an improvement to noise reduction and ResolveFX, which lets users remove blemishes and even dust and scratches with a technology called smart fill.

Already a favorite of colorists, it’s clear that Blackmagic Design is focused on making DaVinci Resolve 15 a one stop shop for colorists, editors and graphic artists alike.
