Edelkrone just announced the FlexTilt Head, an extremely versatile kind of flexible baseplate that can be turned in multiple directions and folds up into next to nothing. They call it a “tripod head”, but that’s not to be confused with a fluid head which is made for video shooters – it’s more like a head for photographers, nevertheless more versatile than most other solutions in that market. It’s made of machined aluminum like most oder Edelkrone products and takes camera setups of up to 2.5 kg (5.5 pounds) – so it’s clearly made for DSLR cameras only.
After some of there very innovative other products (like the SliderPlus, an extending slider), Edelkrone surprises once again with a product based on a great idea that is unlike most of the things I’ve seen on the market before.
Quite a bargain at $100 – however it cannot (and isn’t meant to) replace a proper fluid head for video. But using it on a slider or for versatility for doing static shots (e.g. Timelapses), I can clearly see how this can end up in many video shooters’ tool bags.
