Call me “naive”, call me a “dreamer” (thank you)!, but for the last 4 year I’ve been trying (unsuccessfully) to realise a small dream and bring to the market an affordable small size, large sensor zoom lens, one that will serve us, documentary film makers best, instead of the “de facto” photo lenses we are currently using.
In this long journey I’ve learned how frustrating in can be to show and explain respected companies in our industry the need for such a lens. I was surprised to see how little belief there is in such a product and further more, acknowledgement in the simple fact that what one needs for basic filming is a camera plus lens. THAT’S IT, no more.
All other “accessories” be it lights, bags, tripod etc. can be considered as “luxury”… Fast forward to present time and I am delighted to see that Sony might give us what we wished for, a true good range 2 zoom lenses.
Considered to be a”rumor” for now, those E-mount, full frame, 16-35, 28-135mm f4 lenses will cost according to the leaked publication €1350 and €2500 respectively. Both lenses will utilise Optical Steady Shot and will be announced during IBC and Photokina exhibitions taking place later this month. Shipping is due during the last quarter of 2014.
