GDU and MUTINY have teamed up to create a line of HVT (High-Value Target) AirTag body caps for theft prevention and recovery. These caps are low-profile caps and incognito. Made of high-impact multi-jet fusion (MJF) polymer, they feature a stealth encapsulation to hide the AirTag inside. Let’s look at what these HVT AirTag camera body caps are all about!
Global Dynamics United is a company owned by RED’s president and co-owner, Jarred Land. They design rigging accessories that are exclusively for RED cameras, offering a range of handgrips, batteries, and baseplates for the RED KOMODO and V-RAPTOR. Lens rehousing is also a part of GDU’s product line. To learn more about it, please check out our article about GDU’s Armored RF 50mm and 16mm lenses.
On the other hand, MUTINY is a film industry solutions company that makes a range of products that are also mainly exclusive to RED cameras. They’re known for creating custom cables and expansion boxes for the KOMODO and V-RAPTOR. Hence, it is fitting that both companies would collaborate to release a product designed to protect high-end production equipment.
Cameras and most photography equipment are easy targets for thieves. Whether you’re held up, ripped off by a renter, or just left your car unlocked, the chances of getting your expensive gear back are slim-to-none. This is where GDU / MUTINY HVT AirTag camera body caps aim to help fix these odds.
The caps feature a tool-less, false bottom inside the body cap that the thieves might just overlook. By disguising the AirTag inside of the body cap, camera owners now have the ability to track their equipment using existing NFC and Bluetooth technology. If a thief steals your camera, you can open the Find My app on your iOS device and hand the exact location of the camera to the police.
The GDU / MUTINY HVT AirTag camera body caps are available in PL, EF, RF and E-Mount options. They can be ordered directly from GDU or MUTINY’s sites. The price of $45 might seem like a lot, but imagine how much more not having it and needing to replace your stolen equipment could cost you.
Lastly, please note that the Apple AirTag is NOT included with the HVT AirTag camera body caps. For more information on how to use Apple AirTags, please visit Apple AirTag support.
What do you think of the GDU / MUTINY HVT AirTag camera body caps? Do you already use AirTags to track your camera equipment? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
