Hedge, the company behind OffShoot, has released OffShoot 23.3, featuring Health Check for ProGrade digital Cards. This feature adds to the Sanitize feature, also for ProGrade cards, released in the previous version 23.2.
OffShoot, the media management app whose launch we covered at CineD (the app name changed from Hedge to OffShoot) has seen a new update with a Health Check feature for Prograde cards. According to Hedge, this 23.3 update continues to enhance their media-specific integrations, communicating now with ProGrade cards to check and optimize the media’s health and performance. This feature is beneficial in any situation, mainly if we rent cards and want to ensure peace of mind during a shoot.
Sanitizing a card (Secure Erase) is crucial because cards degrade over time, losing their original factory speed. Sanitation erases everything stored on a card, overwriting all the sectors, instead of only flipping the partition table. This process allows the new data written to the card to be grouped without defragmentation, increasing the write and read speed.
Please remember that when OffShoot runs the sanitization process in any ProGrade card, it will delete your data forever, so we suggest backing up before proceeding. The good news is that when you return your cards to the rental house, nobody can access your files.
Your media will disappear from the Disk view when running the sanitization process. Don’t freak out since this is entirely normal, and it will reappear later as “New” under the name PROGRADE.
The Sanitization process, available from the 23.2 update, only runs on ProGrade cards with the ‘R’ logo on the label, and you need to use a ProGrade card reader for compatibility.
Hedge OffShoot 23.3 is available by extending the support on your OffShoot license from the app or via Hedge’s license manager.
There is now an offer on ProGrade media cards and readers valid from November 29 to December 17, 2023, using the coupon code OFFSHOOT for special savings. This coupon is available only for ProGrade card and reader bundles.
What do you think about this OffShoot update? Have you had issues with your cards during a project? Let us know in the comments!
