Building on the success of their Cobra modular monopod series, iFootage announced the Cobra 3 Strike, currently on Kickstarter. Nino from CineD met up with Madison Lee at the iFootage booth who explained how this monopod functions, so let’s see what he had to say!
In 2023, iFootage released the Cobra 3 with design upgrades, and we had a chance to look at it at NAB 2023. With the Cobra 3 Strike, iFootage marks the next chapter in this series. This monopod focuses on one-man shooters, wedding and event photographers, or anyone who would like to quickly adjust their monopod while continuing to use their camera.
The Cobra 3 Strike offers one-handed operation with a quick-release extension and lock grip on the handle. Slightly squeeze the handle and slide to extend or retract.
The monopod with base extends to 150.3cm/59.2 and without the base to 138cm/54.3in. Without the base, the monopod weighs in at 1kg/2.2lbs, and with the base 1.6kg/3.5lb. The body is aluminum alloy with a 5kg/11lb payload capacity. The folded length is 71.5cm/28.1in for the monopod only and 83.7cm/32.9in with the base.
The head functions with a quick-release system so it’s also controlled with only one hand. There is a 1/4in and a 3/8in dual thread screw for more compatibility. The head can also be mounted on the base for low-angle and tabletop shooting.
The upgraded support legs on the base extend to 150mm in diameter and can be adjusted to 22°, 50° and 78°. The base is controlled with a pedal. Step on the pedal to adjust the angle of the monopod, release and step again to lock it back into place.
The Early Bird set gets you the monopod, quick-release, base, and transport bag for $179 – a savings of 40%. The Full Gear set is also 40% off during the campaign and is priced at $249. It includes the monopod, the base, the iFootage K5S Tripod Head, the quick-release, and a transport bag.
The iFootage Cobra 3 Strike campaign is now live on Kickstarter. The expected shipping date for early bird buyers is in June, with further shipments around September. Check the Kickstarter website for other perks and more information.
At the end of every crowdfunding-related article, we remind you to please be aware of the risks when backing a project on a crowdfunding platform. Also, please read the platform’s use and remember there can be significant delays when delivering the product. Some projects don’t get delivered at all. That said, iFootage has been quite successful in the past.
Are you the type of photographer who could use the Cobra 3 Strike in their kit? Do you often use a monopod for your event photography? Tell us about it in the comments!

A camera was put in my hands at 16, and I’ve been taking photographs ever since. An American, I’ve lived and worked in Vienna for many years both as a photographer and a photography teacher. Currently I am the photographer for the award-winning Nesterval immersive theater group. I’m a teller of stories. Stories hold my interest. I’ll take on any project with a story to tell.
