Insta360 Ace Pro action camera got a new version 1.0.35 firmware update that adds an Active HDR toggle, webcam mode, extended support for clarity zoom, and more. The update is now available for download free of charge.
Released in November 2023, the Insta360 Ace Pro is the latest “traditional” (as in non-360°) action camera from the Chinese company. To bring some juice in the “ruling trio of action cameras” – GoPro, DJI, and Insta360 – the Ace Pro introduced features like 8K video recording, a 2.4″ flip touchscreen, and some interesting software features such as AI Warp.
While Insta360 released two cameras in the Ace series – Ace and Ace Pro – I will only focus on the Pro version as it seems that the new firmware update only applies to this camera. Let’s take a quick look at what is new with the recently released firmware update v1.0.35.
Insta360 showcases the new functions of the Ace Pro firmware v1.0.35 in the latest video post on Instagram. There is a new Active HDR toggle, webcam mode, extended support for clarity zoom, as well as compatibility with more GPS devices.
The first is a new Active HDR toggle allowing users to switch it on or off. By swiping up in Video, FreeFrame, or Loop Recording, you can view the shooting parameters and tap Active HDR to switch it on/off.
The camera now supports webcam mode up to 1080p 30fps with the option to use facial detection to zoom in/out on the face. As Insta360 claims, after connecting the camera to the computer, the webcam mode is available for Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Skype, QuickTime Player, Lifesize, Potplayer, Tencent Meeting, and Feishu.
Additionally, more photo and video shooting modes support Clarity Zoom by double-tapping the screen. Clarity Zoom can zoom in or out 2x without losing image quality (according to Insta360). It is now available in the following shooting modes:
Last but not least, the Ace Pro is now compatible with more GPS devices and motorcycle helmet headsets from Sena, Cardo, and VIMOTO. The compatibility now includes the Insta360 GPS action remote as well. The GPS action remote can control the camera and even wake it up when it’s turned off. It also has flexible attachments and is waterproof up to 16ft (5m).
Additional improvements in the new firmware version include the following:
The Insta360 Ace Pro action camera currently sells for $449.99 (around €418 plus VAT in Europe). You can download the current firmware update here.
