NANLITE Forza 60B and Forza 200 LED Lights Announced

NANLITE recently announced the launch of two new LED lights: the NANLITE Forza 60B and Forza 200. The Forza 60B is a bi-color version of the popular Forza 60 COB LED light. On the other hand, the Forza 200 is a daylight-only fixture, but it fills a hole in the NANLITE’s lineup between the Forza 60 and Forza 300. Let’s take a closer look at these two exciting new fixtures!

NANLITE Forza 60B – Same but Different

The Forza 60B is an interesting new bi-color fixture from NANLITE, and probably a direct answer to the recently announced Aputure LS 60d/60x. To sum up the NANLITE Forza 60B quickly, it’s easy to say that this is the same fixture as the previous Forza 60, except that it’s now bi-color. Here is a quick list of the similarities between the 60 and 60B:

• Same light fixture size and weight: 199 x 85 x 105mm/ 7.8 x 3.4 x4.1″ for a weight of 800 grams.
• To attach light modifiers in front of the COB chip is proprietary and not Bowens standard. However, light modifiers of the Forza 60 will work on the Forza 60B, and an optional Bowens mount adapter is available separately.

• Both lights feature an L bracket yoke. The light head can rotate 330° around the yoke.
• No ballast needed: everything is built-in the light.
• Both lights have a built-in fan that is “extremely quiet,” according to NANLITE. Also, you can switch off the fan if needed.

• At the back of the lights, there are two control knobs, a power switch, the power input, a screen, and a USB port.
• The Forza 60 and 60B comes in a cute little bag with an AC adapter, reflector, and extension cord.

• For more versatility, you can power the NANLITE Forza 60B and Forza 60 with Sony NPF batteries or V-mount batteries with optional power adapters.
• You can control the fixtures via your smartphone with APP control, or with a remote.

You got it, both the NANLITE Forza 60B and Forza 60 have a lot in common. However, there are still some significant differences.

NANLITE Forza 60B – A Versatile Bi-Color Fixture

The NANLITE Forza 60B is a bi-color fixture that can go from 2700K to 6500K. NANLITE claims an incredible CRI of 96 and a TLCI of 98.

In terms of output, with the included reflector, the NANLITE Forza 60B is slightly less powerful (13.830lux at 1m) than the original Forza 60 (18.820lux at 1m). Nothing surprising here as bi-color LED lights are usually less potent than daylight-only LED fixtures. Below is a tab with all the photometrics from NANLITE.

Also, because the NANLITE Forza 60B is bi-color, it features more built-in practical effects. For example, there are new effects like CCT Loop or Candle Fire.

NANLITE Forza 200 – Compact and Powerful

The NANLITE Forza 200 is a 200W daylight-only (5600K) LED fixture that sits nicely in NANLITEe’s lineup of monolights between the Forza 60 and Forza 300.

The Forza 200 is an excellent compromise between light output, weight, and size. Indeed, the light head measures only 12.2 x 8.3 x 4.5″, and the ballast is 5.1 x 4.9 x 11.8″. In terms of weight, the fixture is 1.78kg/3.92lb without ballast, and 4.04 kg/8.91lb with the ballast and power adapter. You can turn the light head 360° around the yoke, which is handy.

According to NANLITE, the Forza 200 has a CRI of 98 and a TLCI of 97, which is outstanding. In terms of light output, the Forza 200 can output 37.540lux at 1 meter with the standard reflector, and up to 126.413lux at 1 meter with the Fresnel attachment in spot mode. These numbers are impressive for such a compact fixture. The Nanlite Forza 200 features a standard Bowens mount, unlike the Forza 60B. Below is a tab with all the photometrics from NANLITE.

The Forza 200 has a built-in fan, but you can turn it off if needed. There is no control on the light head; all the controls are on the ballast.

NANLITE Forza 200 – Ballast and Features

The NANLITE Forza 200’s ballast is similar in design and user interface to the ballasts of the Forza 300/500. This brick ballast features an LCD screen with four settings buttons under, and two knobs to dial your parameters. Also, NANLITE upgraded the included practical lighting effects, so you know have the choice between 11 FX. There is a USB port on the side of the ballast to upgrade its firmware if NANLITE releases new updates later down the road.

You can power the light via the included AC adapter, or with an optional 14.8V or 26V V-mount battery. Keep in mind that when running off 14.8V batteries, the power output of the fixture is 60% only. Also, NANLITE recommends the use of V-mount cells with a 12A continuous output.

Finally, you can control the Forza 200’s ballast via your smartphone, a 2.4Ghz optional remote, or wired DMX.

The NANLITE Forza 200 comes in a soft case with the AC adapter, ballast, COB chip protector, standard reflector, and extension cord. It should start shipping early July for a price of $699.00.
