RØDE has just launched an updated version of its compact camera/microphone stand: the RØDE Tripod 2. With a maximum payload capacity of 2kg/4.4lbs, the Tripod 2 was already available as part of the company’s Vlogger kits, but you can now get it as a standard product. Let’s take a closer look at it!
Alongside the launch of the RØDE thread adaptor, the company also made the RØDE Tripod 2 available as a standalone product. Indeed, this little tripod was initially introduced in November 2020 along with the Vlogger kits. However, back then it made very little sense to purchase the kit if you only needed the stand and weren’t vlogging with your smartphone.
The RØDE Tripod 2 is a much-welcomed update from the previous RØDE Tripod that was released years ago and specifically designed as a microphone table stand.
The Tripod 2 is made out of plastic, it is pretty lightweight at only 200g/0.44lbs, and it has compact dimensions: 186.1mm x 72.2mm when closed and 151mm x 205mm when fully extended.
Indeed, this stand can be used in the closed position for handheld/vlogging shooting conditions or as a “traditional” tripod when you open the legs.
Talking about the legs, they can be opened in either mid or wide positions, depending on your stability/height needs. Also, each leg features two 1/4″-20 mounting points if you need to attach extra accessories to the tripod legs.
On top of the Tripod 2, you’ll find a gimbal head with a 1/4″-20 mounting thread. In the box, you’ll find a 1/4″-20 to 3/8″-16 thread adaptor, which is always handy. However, with a maximum payload capacity of 2kg/4.4lbs (when the head is at a 90-degree angle and the Tripod 2 is fully extended), don’t ask for too much with this tiny unit.
The RØDE Tripod 2 is available now for $39.00. For more information, please visit RØDE’s website here.
What do you think about this new compact tripod? Do you often vlog with a tripod, or do you shoot handheld? Don’t hesitate to let us know in the comments down below!
