SmallRig has added yet another camera cage to its already extensive catalog of camera accessories. This time, you are invited to upgrade your new Kinefinity MAVO Edge 6K (or the 8K variant from 2020).
Box-shaped cameras are quite popular because they are easy to rig according to your needs and preferences. The disadvantage? Well, you actually have to rig them up to be able to work with them comfortably.
SmallRig has recently released yet another camera cage, and this time the product serves two host cameras, as they are identically shaped: The new Kinefinity MAVO Edge 6K (review here) and the 2020 8K model (review here).
The new cage consists of quite a few parts as it is very modular depending on your needs. It offers a complete cage in terms of the baseplate, top plate and two side plates as well as a handle, but if you only need certain parts for a specific setup, you are free to use only those and leave the rest in the bag.
Since this cage was built specifically for the MAVO Edge 6K/8K cameras, it is also designed to provide unobstructed access to all buttons, card slots, controls and connectors. The same goes for the camera’s cooling system.
All parts feature multiple attachment points in the form of regular 1/4″-20 threads, ARRI 3/8″-16 threads with locating pins, 15mm rod clamps or cold shoe attachments. Both side plates (which also double as NATO rails) offer ARRI rosettes for attaching handles, such as when building a compact handheld rig.
The included 15mm rod clamp can be attached to either the top plate or the bottom for mounting a follow focus unit. The NATO handle attaches directly to the top plate and also offers several mounting options itself.
When using the whole cage with all its accessories you’re looking at 883g (31.1 oz) added to your rig. The cage is 242 x 170 x 153mm (9.5 x 7.0 x 6.0 in) in size, and it is made out of aluminum alloy, stainless steel and silicone (for protection).
In the box you’ll find:
The SmallRig camera cage for the Kiniefinity MAVO Edge 6K/8K sells for $299, and it is available now.
