Sony recently announced the lens development of a new telephoto G Master prime lens: the Sony FE 300mm f/2.8 G Master OSS. This lens will be launched in early 2024 and will be an excellent addition to sport and wildlife photographers along with the existing FE 400mm f/2.8 G Master OSS and FE 600mm f/4 G Master OSS telephoto lenses.
Sony has just announced the FE 20-70mm f/4 G, which features fast autofocus performances and many optimizations for video shooters like focus-breathing reduction. Furthermore, the company quietly announced the lens development of a high-end photography prime lens: the FE 300mm f/2.8 G Master OSS.
Currently, there is very little information on the upcoming G Master member. However, so far, we can say that this FE 300mm f/2.8 telephoto lens will cover full-frame image sensors, have a maximum f/2.8 aperture, and built-in SteadyShot image stabilization.
According to Sony:
The new lens will feature the incredible high-resolution and spectacularly beautiful bokeh true to Sony’s acclaimed line of flagship G Master™ series lenses, while also offering a far-reaching 300mm focal length and F2.8 large aperture. This combination will deliver a new elevated shooting experience for all professional sports, news and event photographers and videographers looking to capture decisive moments with higher image quality.Sony

If Sony stays in line with the FE 400mm f/2.8 G Master OSS and FE 600mm f/4 G Master OSS telephoto lenses, we can assume that the FE 300mm f/2.8 G Master OSS will be made of magnesium alloy, have a linear XD focus motor, Nano AR plus fluorine coatings, be splash and dust resistant, and it should be compatible with 1.4 and 2x extenders.
The FE 300mm f/2.8 G Master OSS will be available in early 2024, but there is no indication about pricing. However, if you look at the prices of the 400 and 600mm G Master OSS lenses, you can get an idea of the price ballpark.
What do you think about this upcoming G Master OSS telephoto prime lens? Is it the kind of focal length you often need or use? Don’t hesitate to let us know in the comments down below!
