The Colorist Guide to DaVinci Resolve 18 is a new useful educational resource from Blackmagic Design that takes readers through a series of practical exercises that teach how to use DaVinci Resolve’s color correction tools in detail. It is available as a free 400-pages PDF or paid printed version.
The latest generation of Blackmagic Design’s popular NLE, DaVinci Resolve 18, first released (in Beta) during the NAB in April 2022, focused on bringing new cloud-focused features. Three months later, the final release version of Resolve 18 followed. A few days ago, Blackmagic Design released the colorist guide to DaVinci Resolve 18 – a 400-page manual to all the features of Resole 18 that are relevant to colorists.
The guide itself is only a small part of the vast library of educational materials that Blackmagic Design offers for free. The company not only has many free PDF manuals accompanied with sample footage and lesson project files available to download. Blackmagic Design also offers hours of free educational training videos and they also host live training sessions from time to time.

The colorist guide from Daria Fissoun, CSI, is Blackmagic Design’s official hands-on training guide that takes readers through a series of practical exercises that teach how to use DaVinci Resolve’s color correction tools in detail. It is designed to teach a wide variety of workflows, effects, and the tools necessary to perform professional grades, as BMD puts it.
Blackmagic Design is, of course, not the only one creating educational content for Resolve. On top of tons of short Youtube videos with educational content for Resolve, there are a few useful and comprehensive courses on the educational platform MZed from the UK-based filmmaker, editor, and colorist Ollie Kenchington:
The colorist guide to DaVinci Resolve 18 is available as a PDF file free of charge and can be downloaded directly from the Blackmagic Design Training webpage. You can also buy a printed paperback version of the guide from Amazon for around $36.
