Tilta has introduced a new lightweight Rubber Matte Box that will join the Mirage Matte Box product range. It features a rubberized hood, is designed for 95mm circular filters, and will be in a similar price range as the Mirage Matte Box. At this year’s Cine Gear in Los Angeles, we had the chance to talk to Nick Szubart about the new Tilta Matte Box and the new 95mm filters. So far, there has been no price or exact shipping date announced, but it should be available late summer this year.
Tilta released the extremely lightweight and compact Mirage Matte Box about two years ago. It is a two-filter Matte box for 95mm circular filters and features a remote-controlled motorized variable ND filter. If you are not familiar with the 179g/6,3oz light Matte box, please read this article and watch this video interview.
The new Tilta Rubber Matte Box will be a smaller and even lighter version of the Mirage Matte Box. It is a single-filter solution and is also designed to accommodate larger cine lenses with 95mm circular filters. The Rubber Matte Box has a swing-away door and comes with an integrated filter tray, and you can also use the existing filter trays from the Mirage Matte Box. So, whenever you need to get very close to a subject and the Mirage Matte Box might be too large, you now have an option for a smaller one.
Together with the new Rubber Matte Box, Tilta announced new 95mm circular filters that will be produced by Tilta in-house. Various polarizer filters will be available, together with NDs, VNDs, Pro-Mist, and effect filters like streak or rainbow flare filters. All the new Tilta filters will be compatible with the existing Mirage Matte Box as well.
There has been no price officially announced for the new Tilta Rubber Matte Box. Although you could expect it to be in the same price range as the Mirage Matte Box at around $100. The new 95mm filters will be priced very similarly to the existing ones, starting at around $50 for polarizer filters, and up to around $200 for a variable ND filter.
No exact shipping date has been announced, but the Rubber Matte Box together with the new filters should be available in late summer this year. For further information, please visit the website of Tilta here.
