Vocas has recently introduced new accessories designed specifically for Canon’s latest 6K full-frame cinema camera, the EOS C400. These include a 2-piece top plate as well as a support bracket for Vocas LPL/PL to RF adapters, but the new camera body is also compatible with other existing Vocas accessories. Let’s take a look!
After a long wait, the Canon Cinema EOS lineup finally got a breath of fresh air with the recent announcement of the new box-style EOS C400. Boasting a new 6K full-frame BSI stacked CMOS sensor, internal Cinema RAW Light recording, new compressed codec options, built-in ND filters, Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, and robust connectivity, this camera could truly tick most (if not all) boxes for many users. In case you missed it, make sure to check out our initial coverage and interview with Canon here.
The camera will be available in September for $7,999, but many third-party companies have already started developing rigging accessories for the new body. These include ARRI, Wooden Camera, and Zacuto, for example, which are also joined by Vocas.
Vocas already offers accessories for Canon Cinema EOS cameras like the EOS C200, C300 Mark III, and C500 Mark II. The good news is that some of these accessories – like their Microphone Holder, Viewfinder Bracket, and LPL/PL to RF adapters – are also compatible with the new EOS C400. Other parts, however, needed to be redesigned from scratch to adapt to the new form factor.
In particular, Vocas developed a 2-piece top cheese plate that wraps around the camera’s original top handle. It offers several 1/4”-20 and 3/8”-16 threads with locating holes for mounting camera accessories and integrates a bubble level to check your camera’s horizon.
Moreover, the company designed a support bracket that is compatible with both their LPL to RF and PL to RF lens mount adapters. The bracket solidly screws directly to the front of the top cheese plate, thus providing two extra points of contact to avoid play in the adapter.
Finally, Vocas has a full range of universal accessories to complete your EOS C400 configuration. These include dovetail and baseplates, shoulder supports, handgrips, extension arms, 15mm and 19mm rod holders, and more. You can find a full list of EOS C400-compatible accessories here.
The new Vocas accessories for Canon EOS C400 are now available to order from the company’s website. The top cheese plate retails for €199 (excl. VAT), while the PL and LPL adapter support is priced at €229 (excl. VAT). Pricing for other existing accessories is as follows:
Lastly, the Canon EOS C400 body is now available to pre-order for $7,999/€7.165 (excl. VAT) and should start shipping in September.
