Wooden Camera has announced a full range of accessories compatible with the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro (or BMPCC 6K Pro, see our review here). The new accessories include a cage, a lightweight 15mm baseplate, a top handle, and battery power solutions. Let’s take a closer look at it!
The Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro was announced in February this year. It features numerous improvements over the non-pro version, including built-in ND filters, a tiltable screen, and the possibility to install an optional EVF directly on top of the camera.
Like with every new camera release, third-party accessories manufacturer release their dedicated cage and rigging options. We recently reported about the Smallrig cage for the BMPCC 6K Pro, but now Wooden Camera is joining the competition with its Unified Accessory kits.
Let’s start with the core of this system for the BMPCC 6K Pro: the Wooden Camera cage. This cage is made from aluminum and wraps around three sides of the camera, so the handgrip is free, and you’ll get easy access to all your controls.
There are plenty of 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 mounting points on the top and side of the cage to attach accessories. All mounting points feature a Wooden Camera standard locating hole pattern, compatible with ARRI standard locating pin accessories.
On front of the cage, you’ll find two 3/8″-16 mounting points so you can mount a 15mm rod adapter for top rod configurations.
According to Wooden Camera, the cage for the BMPCC 6K Pro features “several pass-through slots for improved cable management, engraved markings to indicate the camera’s focal plane, and an offset cold shoe mount.” The cage comes with a detachable HDMI and USB-C Support Bracket for ensuring secure cable connections, as well as a right-angle HDMI adapter.
Next is the top handle (3/8-16), which, as its name suggests, attaches to the top of your camera via a 3/8″-16 bolt-on mechanism with removable safety pins.
This handle is pretty compact (130mm/5.12in long) and lightweight (155g/0.35lbs), so it should be a nice fit with the BMPCC 6K Pro. On top/front/back of the handle, you’ll find a couple of 1/4″-20 and 3/8”-16 mounting points with ARRI locating pin compatibility.
If you want to add an external battery or follow focus/mattebox system to your BMPCC 6K Pro, Wooden Camera has your back with this lightweight 15mm baseplate. This baseplate acts both as a riser and 15mm LWS rod support, so your rails are at the correct height.
The top of the baseplate features an Arca-Swiss-type quick-release dovetail plate with a 3/8”-16 screw and locating pin for attaching to the bottom of the camera. There is a vertical rod port on the front of the dovetail so you can attach an optional lens support.
At the front and back of the 15mm LWS, you’ll find three 1/4″-20 mounting points. The plate’s bottom features an ARRI-standard dovetail mount, but it comes with a quick dovetail plate with multiple threads so that you can attach your own quick-release plate to it.
Last but not least are the Wooden Camera battery slide pro modules for the BMPCC 6K Pro, available in both V-Mount and Gold Mount versions. These battery plates provide unregulated 14v to a 2-Pin connector for camera power. On top of the plate, you”ll also find a D-Tap (5.8 Amps) port to power a camera accessory.
Like most WC battery slide pro modules, this plate has a digital fuse that cuts off accessory outputs if you overload the plate/battery while leaving the camera powered.
The Wooden Camera micro battery slide pro attaches to your rig via two 15mm rods, and you can adjust its position up and down or set it at an angle if you wish.
If you want to bundle accessories, three Wooden Camera Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro unified accessory kits are available: Base, Advanced, and Pro versions.
All products are available for pre-order now and should start shipping in Mid-June.
The Wooden Camera BMPCC 6K Pro cage retails for $349.00, the Top Handle (3/8-16) is $99.00, the LW 15mm baseplate is $299.00, and the Micro Battery Slide Pro is $399.00.
Finally, the Base kit retails for $847.00, the Advanced one is $1007.00, and the Pro one is $1526.00.
