Blackmagic Design have announced the release of DaVinci Resolve Studio 18.6.1 and quickly after that, 18.6.2. The majority of changes resolve issues from previous versions. Let’s take a closer look!
Some days ago, Blackmagic Design released DaVinci Resolve Studio 18.6.1. This new version – 18.6.2 – is almost the same, it just addresses an issue when duplicating a timeline where parameters may not be set correctly.
In this free update, the Davinci Resolve installer includes a standalone application, the Blackmagic Proxy Generator Lite, and the new DaVinci Resolve Monitoring app. Another change is proxy as the default mode for single and multi-user projects.
Below are the list of changes from Blackmagic Design’s site:
As always, the free version has some limitations, such as project mastering and output to Ultra HD resolutions or lower, or supporting a less powerful use of processors. These features are fully available if you upgrade to DaVinci Resolve 18.6.2 Studio.
The company’s philosophy of continuously updating its software is always appreciated. Still, if you are a Davinci Resolve user like I am, maybe you have the feeling that a new update will not last long. The ongoing process of bug fixing brings back memories of earlier times with the Windows OS when you had to install service packs to get it to work correctly. On the other hand, if you look at a wide time frame, this philosophy makes Davinci Resolve one of the most powerful NLE apps on the market and an industry standard.
We also recommend backing up your project library before any updates. Here is an article with tips on what to do before updating. Sometimes, waiting a bit for some user feedback would be advisable.
Are you using Davinci Resolve as your NLE? Would you consider updating? Let us know in the comments below!
