The developers at Blackmagic Design have kept busy over the last few weeks (the last update was only in October) and have now released version 18.6.3 of their popular video editing suite, DaVinci Resolve.
This latest version now includes the possibility to sync media from network folders for cloud projects. The project owner can now sync between their Blackmagic Cloud Store and any drive or folder that has been attached to the network.
A new option has been added to prevent sleep mode while files are uploading or proxies are being generated. This allows these functions to continue regardless of what power-saving options have been activated on your computer.
A new dialogue menu has been added when importing projects to a cloud project library. You can now set project settings such as media and proxy storage locations when starting the import. This ensures that the project is correctly structured after importing.
You can now select proxy media rather than camera originals for web presets, thereby speeding up delivery and saving unnecessary processing.
The newest version of DaVinci Resolve now supports decoding of 4:2:2 HEIF and HIF clips, allowing the use of higher-quality footage shot on smartphones.
The update also includes the usual stability improvements such as better popup window management and control for Macs with Sonoma 14.1, better transition deletion with clips that have in and out ranges applied, and better performance when doing ripple edits in bigger timelines.
Here is the full list according to Blackmagic Design’s website:
As always, when you think about upgrading DaVinci Resolve, make sure to follow our tips in this article. If your version is stable and the newest one does not have anything you really need, then stay with it – only upgrade if you need any of the new features or if the version you currently have is not stable enough and/or suffering from bugs.
As always, the free and studio versions are available at Blackmagic Design or retailers such as B&H and CVP. If you are just getting started, check out our article on good resources here.
