Ikan V5600

I got a chance to play around with Ikan’s V5600 HDMI on board monitor this weekend.

It is surprisingly lightweight.

It has HDMI, Composite, and SD/HD component inputs. No output.

The kit includes the V5600 monitor, AC power adapter, a hot shoe mount, AV and component cables. Sunshade, battery back, batteries and  battery chargers are additional.

This monitor is super light. Weighing in at only 0.7 lbs it is the lightweight contender in the on board monitor race. This is a good trait when you are mounting to the hot shoe, intended for a flash. I wonder how many hot shoe repairs canon will have on the 7D.

The image quality is quite good. Ikan lists the resolution to be 1024 X 600, better than the more expensive Marshall V-LCD70P-HDMI monitor at 800 x 400, and is half the weight.

I noticed the function buttons to be a bit on the flimsy side, but the case seemed strong enough to take a few hits. The menu and other selections were easy enough to figure out, with selectable safe area guides for 16:9 and 4:3. It will handle both PAL and NTSC signals.

There is a headphone out which could be a bonus for us HDDSLR shooters who have no audio out on our cameras.

The Bad:

No Video Out.
