Just a very quick post about a cool little product that can make the life of any Freefly MøVi operator much easier.
The Freefly MøVi comes with a proprietary camera plate that is unique to their gimbals. Not only that, the smallest M5 MøVi has a different plate from the larger M10 and M15 rigs. None of these plates are compatible with existing tripod heads, and so far, you were really only able to mount a camera equipped with a MøVi plate on a MøVi.
As a MøVi M10 and M5 owner and frequent shooter, I can confirm that this can be painful – you end up putting your camera on the inactive gimbal and THEN rigging it up with the additional extras, which is painful due to the fact that you can really only balance it once you are done putting everything on.
Now there’s a small South Californian company called 1A Tools who have recognized that problem. They have started shipping a custom MøVi tripod adapter for all the available Freefly gimbals, which attaches to a tripod and allows you to put the camera on there to get it ready before you mount it on your MøVi. Smart and easy.
The adapter can be ordered from their website from $250.
