SANDMARC, a company specializing in iPhone products for photographers and filmmakers like tripods, cases, lenses, etc., has just launched the Microscope Lens, an exciting tool for your filmmaking arsenal if you are using your iPhone as your camera and you are into macro photography/video.
For filmmakers and photographers who consider smartphones a real working solution, the industry has found a new niche for apps and accessories to expand our shooting options. Cages, lenses, DOF adapters, and microphones are some of the gadgets introduced yearly. Sandmarc already has a complete line of iPhone lenses on the market, like a telephoto, a macro, and an anamorphic lens. So let’s see what this new Microscope Lens offers.
SANDMARC’s Microscope Lens comes with interesting features to expand our iPhone’s capabilities. The lens offers 40x magnification and an image quality that looks promising if we look at the examples provided by the company. That means if we pair this lens with the iPhone 15 Pro Max 5x camera, we would have a 200x magnification! In the launch video, we can also see the multi-element glass used to capture the finest details in the shot.
One of the main challenges in macro photography is having enough light to take the shot, primarily because in the microscopic world we have lots of shadows and dark areas. On top of that, sometimes we need to close the aperture down to get more of the subject in focus. The Microscope Lens offers an interesting solution to simplify the task: a built-in circular light, chargeable via a USB-C charger.
We must enable the macro control in our iPhone settings to use the lens. SANDMARC recommends using the ProCamera app to enable the 5x mode.
Whether you use your iPhone for professional work or personal projects, these lenses are fun to use and explore creative areas that are only possible thanks to the device’s size. Ultimately, having all your gear in your pocket makes you go out and shoot more.
The Microscope Lens is compatible with iPhone models 12 and up and is available for pre-order at $129.99. The estimated delivery date is early-mid December, and the box includes the lens, an iPhone case, a clip-on mount, a lens pouch, and the front and back lens caps. For more information, please visit SANDMARC’s Microscope lens website.
