SmallHD has announced a new monitor, the Ultra 7, as another flagship in their Smart 7 series. Featuring the same technology as SmallHD top-of-the-range 4K production monitors, it also integrates with the Teradek Bolt 6 wireless platform.
Any serious production requires high-quality, bright, reliable monitors, and the offers keep increasing as technology evolves and new brands release their new solutions. Through the years, SmallHD, the company established in the US and recently awarded with an Emmy, has released products like the SmallHD Indie 7 or the SmallHD Smart 5 Series. Now, the brand reinforces their Smart 7 line with this new Ultra 7 monitor. Let’s take a look at some of their selling points.
The SmallHD Ultra 7 features a bright touchscreen with a 1920×1200 pixel resolution and up to 2300nits luminance. With these numbers, it should provide good visibility in almost any environment, something all outdoor shooters appreciate. The Ultra 7 can be operated with the touchscreen or the included joystick, with large tactile buttons for precise functionality and customization.
Regarding connectivity, the monitor comes with 6G-SDI inputs capable of transmitting up to 4K30p video signals, allowing for precise focus when zooming in. It also presents dual 2-pin power connectors for powering accessories and an Ethernet and 5-pin USB port for integrated camera control with ARRI, RED, and Sony VENICE. Additionally, TX and RX models will support wireless camera control in the 6GHz spectrum.
One of the features we look for in monitors is durability. Sooner or later, we will test our monitors in challenging conditions, and it is not rare that they suffer from accidental falls, impacts, etc. The SmallHD Ultra 7 is fully sealed, protecting against liquids and fine particles entering the unit. It features a sealed heat management system to operate in conditions varying from 0° to 40°. The chassis presents raised edges to protect the front glass and silicone bumpers to protect the monitor from fortuitous impacts.
Additionally, Ultra 7 users can add a quick-release sunhood, not included, that clips into the front of the monitor, using magnets for quick conversion to 3 or 4 sides. The sunhood incorporates an anti-reflective felt to protect the monitor glass when the hood is closed.
The SmallHD Ultra 7 monitor is now available starting at $2,999.00. For more information, please visit the SmallHD product website.
